THE CONTEXT

I designed Sarvam Content Studio end-to end from 0 to 1: a workspace where one video becomes many languages, in the same voice. It covers seven products (Home, Voice Library, Voice Cloning, Text to Speech V1 and V2, Speech to Text, Video Dubbing) across 11 Indian languages. This piece is about the small decisions in that space, grouped by the four values that kept showing up: Simplicity, Fluidity, Confidence and Delight.

These decisions led to 25% of Sarvam traffic coming to Studio after our 100% rollout post Epoch.

Simplicity through progressive disclosure + intuitiveness

Studio has 350+ voices and a lot of settings. We showed only what you need right now, and let the rest appear when you reach for it. Here are some examples below of how we implemented this for the product:

Fluidity through continuous context

Creative work falls apart when you lose your place. In Studio, things slide in beside you, not on top of you. Here are some examples below of how we implemented this for the product:

Speech to Text

Live Transcription ● Contextual Re-record ● Recording Feedback

Text to Speech

Explore Voices ● Add Speaker ● Favourite Voices ● Delete Speaker

Voice Cloning

Timed Completion ● Live Visualiser

Voice Library

Voice Examples ● Use Voice ● Favourite Voice

Confidence through guided moments

AI is unpredictable. At every point where something could go wrong, we asked how to prevent it, and if it happens anyway, how to make the next step obvious.

I did countless iterations (good and bad) to make the products perfect for launch! But here are a few of my favourites…

Impact

  •  7 products designed from zero to one, live across 11 Indian languages
  • Studio saw the most traction out of all Sarvam products after Epoch [and make up 25% of Sarvam users]
  • The emotion prototypes aligned the PM, voices and models teams to grow TTS as Studio’s biggest MOAT
  • Stayed up all night before Epoch coding frontend, so what people touched at the booth matched the Figma exactly

Takeaways

  • Go deep early to go fast later. One week of study saved months of guessing.
  • Prototype the feeling. A clickable idea aligns a room faster than any deck.
  • Ask why until it’s better. Most “that’s just how it works” answers were really “nobody pushed yet.”
  • Design doesn’t end at Figma. Sometimes it ends at 4am in the codebase.

Thank you, Sarvam

I moved to Bangalore for this, ran on far too much coffee and chai, and found a team that became family. We shared late nights, birthday dinners and one very emotional farewell.
Big thanks to my mentor Jaljith, who taught me more than design and sent me home with my favourite book, Steal Like an Artist.

Studio is still my baby – more updates to come soon!!
